Commissioner Brenda Howerton presides over the Sixth Annual Durham City-County Martin Luther King Jr. Day Employee Observance Program at First Presbyterian Church on Feb 16, 2011. Durham County Government and The City of Durham partner to host the annual program that recognizes valuable employees for their volunteer service in the community.

Commissioner Howerton was among the honored guest at the North Carolina State Taekwondo Championships on March 19, 2011. Over 300 participants, judges, parents and spectators from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia attended the event held at Sherwood Githens Middle School in Durham, NC.
